Introduction to Earth Science

SCIENCE

A subject that I never would've thought would be included in my course Advertising Arts, science. A subject that never in my 10 years of studying in elementary and high school did I ever learned to love. It's not that I'm bad at the subject, it's just that I never really found it interesting. Though I'm aware of it's major significance in explaining everything, studying science was never a joyous experience to me. For these reasons, I was disappointed when I found out that this semester, we'd be taking up a science subject.

First thing that crossed my mind was, what does this subject even has to do with my course? Well, thank God our professor Mr. Paner gave us that question to us as a homework. It was answering it then that I really thought about it. Advertising arts basically mean the art of understanding people's interest and factors that would affect their choice, then applying them to creative outputs in order to make effective ads. Then I thought, the modern world is really concerned on a lot of issues involving nature, therefore Earth science is connected. I realized that knowledge on Earth Science would be very helpful in producing ads which targets the eco- conscious market.

Last Thursday we had a short introduction on Earth Science. We discussed a bit on how our Solar system and our planet Earth was formed, the theories about it including the famous Big Bang Theory. We discussed how the Earth was formed through colliding objects from outer space until it formed a solid mass which through time, turned into this planet we call Earth. A lot of phenomena were involved in order to form the Earth that we have today. It includes volcanic eruptions, plate tectonics, meteor collisions, etc.

So far those were the few things discussed on the introduction to Earth science. I'm not gonna say for the sake of this blog that I'm starting to love science, because to be honest I still don't have the passion for this subject. But realizing it's importance to my major gives me at least a motivation to try and be interested at least. I'm looking forward to the next lessons and hopefully I'd be more focused then.

  2. Wow! Thanks for sharing such an insightful documentary about how the earth was made. (: That was pretty interesting and I'm not even done watching it. Hahaha! But anyway. I'm a graduate of a diploma in new media (in Singapore!) and I kinda understand why there is need for such topics. Arts is one of the most influential aspects of the modern world and environmental awareness can be attained through it. Talking about saving the earth. I wished we did a bit of this topic you're doing back in school our designs could have been more than just for it's visual appearance.
